Who will win?

The Feroz Shah Kotla was a historic fortress built by Sultan Feroz Shah Tughlaq, sometime during the 14 century. Quite contrary to the longevity of the fort itself, Delhi Daredevil’s form at their home ground of Feroz Shah Kotla is abysmal. Since the inception of the IPL, they have played 48 games at the ground, won 19 and lost 29!

All that will, hopefully, amount to nought for them as they play against the team that they have defeated the last 2 times they have played them at this ground – Kings XI Punjab. Moreover, they come into this in good nick, having broken their bad run at the start with a massive 97-run victory over Rising Pune Supergiant. A century from Sanju Samson, the first in the IPL so far, sent them on their way before legendary paceman Zaheer Khan, and Amit Mishra put paid to any Pune hopes of a successful chase.

Kings XI Punjab themselves were in good nick, before their winning run was halted by the star turns of Umesh Yadav and Gautam Gambhir, and they will be desperate to get back to winning ways against one of the weaker teams of the tournament.

The fans, though, believe Delhi Daredevils will continue to be paper tigers at their fortress.

Fan verdict : Kings XI Punjab to win – 55%

Will Glenn Maxwell score a 50?

It has not been a comfortable few years for Glenn Maxwell.

After making his debut in all formats of the game in 2012 & 2013 for Australia, he had an elongated purple patch through 2014 and 2015. First, Kings XI Punjab purchased him in the 2014 auction for Rs. 6 cr, and he paid them back in style several times over, so much so that he has struggled to replicate the same form in subsequent editions of the IPL. The explosive middle-order batsman hit 552 runs in 16 matches, including 4 half-centuries, at an incredible strike rate of 187, a level reserved only for elite batsmen in this format of the game. The following editions both ended in disappointment for him.  In and out of the side, he has managed only 324 runs at an average of less than 20.

He has started this season well – 112 runs scored at a strike rate of 200, and with only a solitary dismissal, certainly makes for an encouraging start for the Australian with a point to prove. Can he turn this start into a big tournament?

The fans don’t think so.

Fan verdict : Glenn Maxwell to score less than 50 – 67%

How many runs will Sanju Samson score?

Options: Less than 35, 35-55, more than 55

Looking at Sanju Samson’s statistics, what strikes you the most is not his explosive ability, it is not his ability to hoik the ball out of the park time and again, but his consistency, much like the mentor of the team he represents, Rahul Dravid.

Since making his debut representing Rajasthan Royals in 2013, the then 19-year-old boy has been making waves for his stroke-making, his temperament and attitude. With his ability to bat at multiple positions in the middle-order (anywhere from no. 3 to no. 6), he has been RR’s go-to batsmen for multiple occasions, be it his 63 off 41 balls in partnership with Shane Watson chasing down RCB’s total of 172 at number 3, or his debut knock of 27 off 23 deliveries chasing 126 against Kings XI Punjab, having come in at 79/4 in support of Rahane.

His abilities haven’t gone unnoticed – he is currently the youngest batsman to score a half-century in an IPL match, at 18 years and 169 days, and the second-youngest (behind Manish Pandey) to score a century in the IPL. The latter was the blistering 102 he hit off 82 balls to propel Delhi Daredevils to a mammoth total of 205, but a few days ago.

Can he repeat his heroics against Kings XI Punjab?

The fans say no.

Fan verdict : Sanju Samson to score less than 35 – 62%
