The Sri Lankan team manager Asanka Gurusinha has revealed that they imposed a ban on sweets in the dressing room to keep the fitness of the players intact. In last few games, cricketers failed to perform well and they lost a match to Pakistan at the Champions Trophy thanks to their dismal fielding.

In comparison to the past, the level of the fitness of the cricketers gets far better and now players like Indian skipper Virat Kohli has unbelievable endurance level that helped him being a successful cricketer. On the other hand, Sri Lankan players faced criticism for their unfit body and unshaped bellies and now the management took a step to resolve this issue and changed their dietary chart so that they can better their focus towards the game.

The Sri Lankan team cricket manager Asanka Gurusinha said that the dietary change is a decision of the team physio Nirmala and physical trainer Nick Lee. “No idea about the biscuits ban (a local newspaper report). Just like other teams, our physio and trainer are managing the dietary requirements of the team. One of the things, they don’t want are sweets in the dressing room.

"At the game, they have high-protein foods. That’s the change that has been brought about. But it was done before the Champions Trophy. Whatever the food that is coming into the dressing room, is handled by the physio and the trainer. Myself or Sri Lanka Cricket never gets involved in that. Even the head coach doesn’t get involved in that,” Gurusinha said as reported by The Indian Express.

"The players also understand the need of the physical fitness in the game and they also showed their support to the revised diet chart. The players are actually very supportive of what the physio and trainer are doing,” he added.

The Sri Lankan players came under scrutiny after their below-par performance in the Champions Trophy, in which their poor catching handed them early exist as they dropped Sarfraz Ahmed’s catch twice in the must-win game against Pakistan. Even in the home series against Zimbabwe, they failed to produce any competition which resulted in a 3-2 loss - a shame that would go on as one of the most shambolic displays by the team. After their continued bad performance Sri Lanka’s sports minister Dayasiri Jayasekara slammed them.

“Sri Lanka is the only cricket team to have players with big bellies and it’s not surprising there are so many drops. Leave alone the catches, how many runs have leaked in the field,” the sports minister was quoted as saying by the local newspapers.
