The stand-in Sri Lankan Chamara Kapugedra believes the slender loss at the hands of India has given the hosts some confidence. Singling out Akila Dananjaya for praise, Kapugedra suggested that the team can produce a match-winning performance in the third ODI if they can stick together as a unit.

After a 3-0 whitewash in the Test series, India went one-up in the ODIs securing an easy win over Sri Lanka in the first ODI. However, the second ODI win was a completely different affair and the men in blue had to toil hard for their 3-wicket win over the hosts.ย

However, the hosts suffered a setback when their skipper Upul Tharanga was banned for the third ODI against India. But stand-in skipper Chamara Kapugedra believes the home team is in good spirits and looking forward to the third ODI despite the setback.ย

"I don't think we are struggling. I think there is a good atmosphere in the team. The way we played we are having lot of confidence. Everyone is together and hopefully we can pull off one win. After the last game we believe that we can win. We played really well," Kapugedera said on the eve of the third ODI as reported by PTI.

Akila Danajaya emerged as Sri Lanka's best bowler scalping the six wickets, five of which came in a matter of a couple of overs and turned the tide in the hosts' favour in the second ODI. Kapugedra singled out Danajaya for his exceptional performance against India while stating that the team is still positive of winning against India who have so far looked invincible.

"Especially it was a fine effort by Akila Dhanajanya," the Lanka stand-in skipper said.

"One hurdle we have to overcome and things will fall in line. We are disappointed to lose the last game. But we need to take all the positives from it as well. We don't want to take any negatives. We need to take positives. Hopefully, the guys will come up and do the job," Kapugedera added.

Kapugedera has played 100 ODIs for Sri Lanka and scored 1592 runs which include eight half-centuries. He thanked the management for showing their confidence in him and handing the reins of the squad for the upcoming ODIs.

"I have captained my school teams and I have captained Provincial and club teams. I have captained at every domestic competition. It is a huge honour for me to captain my country. I am really happy to get this opportunity.

"It's a challenge for me. Every game is a challenge and I am ready for that challenge. As a team, we discussed a lot of things. Whatever we spoke we need to put them into practice," he added.
