WATCH : Sunil Ambris becomes the first batsman to be out hit wicket for golden duck on debut
West Indies’ debutant Sunil Ambris secured an unwanted record on his name by being the very first batsman in the history of Test cricket to be out hit wicket for a golden duck on Test debut. Ambris is also just the sixth batsman overall to be out hit wicket for a golden duck in a Test innings.
Windies got off to a good start to the Test series against New Zealand scoring 59 runs for the first wicket before Neil Wagner ran riot through the visitors’ innings at the Basin Reserve in Wellington.
Amidst that, debutant batsman Sunil Ambris, who was capped by West Indies icon Joel Garner before the toss, got an unwanted record to his name by being the very first batsman in the history of Test cricket to be out hit wicket for a golden duck on Test debut. He also became just the sixth batsman overall to be out hit wicket for a golden duck in a Test inning.
On the first delivery of the 30th over, Ambris went deep into his crease as he nudged the ball towards the on-side. However, the momentum took him a little further
Ambris' dismissal triggered a huge collapse for the visitors as they were bundled out for a paltry score of 134 runs with Wagner finishing with career-best figures of 7 for 39.
