Cricket has seen multiple records being shattered in the year gone by ranging from wanted ones by Virat Kohli to unwanted ones, cue Sunil Ambris. However, in the T10 game between Pakhtoons and Maratha Arabians, Shahid Afridi dismissed three wickets in his first three balls to claim a unique record.

After being restricted to 7/2 in the very first over, Pakhtoons rallied back through quick-fire forties from Fakhar Zaman and Liam Dawson as they managed to put up 121/4 in their 10 overs. Even though Kamran Akmal and Lendl Simmons were back in the pavilion in just two overs, Alex Hales’ 30 off 12 balls had brought the Arabians back into the game and by the end of the fourth over, the Arabians had got to a respectable 46/2 and looked to be in control of the game.

However, that was before Afridi came into the attack. His first ball, over-pitched was hit by Rilee Rossouw straight down to long off where Najibullah Zadran took a brilliant diving catch. The incoming Dwayne Bravo was just caught off guard by a quick googly that caught him plumb in front of his stumps. With the unique opportunity of achieving something that had never been done before in the newest format, Afridi saw the Arabian’s captain, Virender Sehwag, walk onto the ground. However, even the legendary Indian couldn’t stop the carnage as he was caught LBW in front of his stumps in a recreation of what had happened on the last ball.

Even though Afridi leaked 17 runs in his next over, his team went on to win their first match by an impressive 25 runs.
