Mitchell Starc demonstrated why he is considered as one of best bowlers in contemporary cricket when his 145kph delivery moved suddenly off the crack to uproot James Vince’s off-stump. And the Twitterati, unsurprisingly, couldn’t resist applauding the New South Wales pacer's “Ball of the Summer”.

Australia surged ahead in their quest to regain the coveted urn as they reduced England to 132/4 when rain announced its arrival for the second time on Day 4 in Perth today with England still trailing by 127 runs. With a steep task ahead of them, a settled Vince was always going to be important for the team, but with Starc firing on all cylinders, there was no place to hide for the visitors at the WACA.

On the penultimate ball of the 30th over, the Aussie spearhead bowled a delivery from around the wicket that pitched on the line of the off-stump. In a normal scenario, the ball would have gone on to miss the leg-stump. However, the ball landed on the huge 16 mm crack and deviated an incredible 3.9 degrees which resulted in the ball going on to demolish the off stump while Vince was trying to flick that ball across the line.

If the Englishman could wait for the shot until the ball landed, he could have survived and taken England to a position that they would have liked. But, it is, again, unfair to fault him, for the fact that it was an unplayable delivery and only a once-in-a-lifetime bowler, which Starc surely is, could emulate.

The wicket was bound to take social media by storm and here are some of the best reactions :

Just when people thought he was “out of sorts”, BOOM!

That reaction when you have a solution to a problem!

And the comparisons begin!

But this might’ve been the actual reason for that delivery!

Nice jinx Warney!
