Was not tense about selection, says Wriddhiman Saha

Despite losing his place to Parthiv Patel due to an injury, Wriddhiman Saha has confided that he was not really concerned about his place in the Indian Test squad. Now that he's back for the one-off Bangladesh Test, Saha looks to live up to the faith the selectors have shown in him.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Wriddhiman Saha was not worried about his place in the Indian cricket team even as Parthiv Patel made a stronger case for himself with his batting performances in the former's absence.

"I was not tense. I don't really expect anything and take things as they come," he stated after being picked up as the sole glovesman in the 16-man squad.

"My job will now be to live up to the faith that the selectors have shown in me," Saha added.

After Saha was sidelined with a finger injury he picked up during the second Test of the 5-match series aginst England, Parthiv Patel made a comeback to the Indian team after 8 years and immediately made an impact with the bat. He followed it up with a century in the Ranji Trophy final to help Gujarat win their maiden title.

This did put Saha's place in the team under some pressure, but the Bengal glovesman was not worried. He knew he was confident about his abilities and trusted the selectors with their job. MSK Prasad, the head of the selection committee, had already clarified that Saha was still India's first-choice wicketkeeper. A double century in the Irani Trophy final also helped his case.

Talking about the upcoming match, Saha said the home side would start as favourites as this would be the first time Bangladesh are playing in India. "They have done well against us in the past in the shorter format. But going by our recent form, I feel India will be favourites against any team at home."
