Steve Smith apologises for his “brain fade” moment
Steve Smith found himself in the eye of a storm on the fourth and final day of the second Test against India in Bengaluru on Tuesday when he was caught looking towards the dressing room for help during a DRS call. The Australian skipper said it “a bit of brain fade” and apologised for his action.
In the 21st over, Umesh Yadav trapped Smith in the front with a delivery which kept very low. After the umpire raised his finger, Smith spoke to his partner Peter Handscomb and then looked at the dressing room to ask if he should go for the review. However, the umpires caught Smith in the act, and Kohli blasted the Australians in the post-match press conference. after the match.
Later, the Australian skipper regretted his action on the pitch and called it a ‘brain fade’ moment.
“I got hit on the pad and looked towards the non-striker batsman and then turned around towards Paddy. I should not have done that. This happened for the first time. I was looking at our boys, I should not have done that. There was a bit of brain fade,” Smith told a news conference.
The rival captains were also involved in several verbal exchanges during the Test.
