I don’t think there is anyone to replace MS Dhoni at the moment, says Adam Gilchrist

Former Australia wicket keeper Adam Gilchrist has hailed MS Dhoni’s contribution to the India team’s success of late stating that there is no replacement for him yet. He also believes that Dhoni’s calm and experienced mind creates a perfect balance to the young and aggressive Indian side.

Dhoni has been a lot more to offer than just being an explosive batsman down the order, who could also be counted on for providing good finishes. Since stepping down from the captaincy, not only has he been a mentor to Virat Kohli on the field, but has also strung together the Indian team that is seeing many emerging youngsters. Gilchrist has identified Dhoni’s contribution from the behind the stumps perfectly and believes India hardly have any player who could replace him in that role efficiently.

"Dhoni will know if he is keen enough and committed enough… Whether he is prepared to make the sacrifices to be there. It's also the case of whether someone is around the corner to replace MS, who can add more value than he can,” Gilchrist said when asked about Dhoni’s playing chances in the 2019 World Cup, reported PTI.

“I can't answer that as I don't know. I know there are some really exciting keeper-batsmen around but I don't know whether they can add more value than MS.”

Gilchrist also stated that the high-flying Indian team gets a lot of help by Dhoni's presence on the field. There is no doubt about Dhoni's brilliant cricketing mind and unparalleled wicketkeeping skills, but Gilchrist made the statement referring to his experience and cool temperament.

“I think they (Indian team) probably benefit more than they know by his (Dhoni) experience and him just being around. I wonder whether people around undervalue his experience and calmness that MS brings to the changing room. I love Virat (Kohli) and all the Indian players' passion and aggression. It's always nice to be balanced up by some experience and wise head,” he continued.

Gilchrist also claimed Dhoni is still versatile enough to have a potential impact in any batting position from number 3 to 7, and that the man from Jharkhand adds more flexibility and options to the team.
