WATCH: MS Dhoni shows his brilliant wicket-keeping prowess by grabbing an awkward bouncer
MS Dhoni has always had a safe pair of gloves behind the stumps and it may not be an aberration to say that he is currently the best wicket-keeper around. The former Indian skipper brought that to the fore once again today by getting hold of an awkward bouncer by Kuldeep Yadav wonderfully.
In the first two matches of the ongoing series against Australia and the last month’s series against Sri Lanka, Dhoni almost single-handedly bailed India out of the woods by playing match-winning innings. However, despite that, there have also been enough instances to show that the former skipper is simply not playing to his usual lofty standards - with the same unerring consistency as he has produced in the years gone by.
But amidst all that, the 36-year-old has still more than enough left in the tank to keep up with the physical demands of limited-overs cricket due to his insane glove-work, to which hardly there is anyone who can come close to at any age. In the fifth ODI against Australia in Nagpur, Dhoni showed exactly why he is still an invaluable asset to the team.
Kuldeep Yadav was bowling the 36th over of the innings and despite the wicket staying low for the most part of the Aussie innings, Kuldeep managed to toss one up, giving it sufficient flight, and Travis Head failed to get a connection. The ball, though, suddenly took a sharp bounce but Dhoni didn’t lose the sight of the ball and grabbed it despite falling on the ground later after being off-balanced.
As much as it was to Yadav’s credit to flight the ball on a wicket that didn't really have much purchase, it was also a lovely illustration of Dhoni’s match awareness and wicket-keeping abilities.
