ICC to apply new set of rules after India-Australia series
The new set of ICC playing conditions will not apply in the India-Australia limited overs series starting on September 17 and running until October 13. The new set of rules will debut on September 28 in the Sri Lanka and Pakistan series.
The day is not far when the umpires will have the authority to send players back to the dressing room for bad behaviour and teams will not lose a review for an umpire’s call verdict on DRS. The cricketing world will witness all the new ICC guidelines in the Test series between Sri Lanka and Pakistan and between Bangladesh and South Africa which will begin in the last week of September.
This year in June, the Marylebone Cricket Club, custodians of the laws of the game, gave their suggestions to the ICC cricket committee and they approved many changes to the playing conditions.
According to the new guidelines, bats will be limited to 108mm in width and 67mm in depth, apart from the 40mm edges. Aside from the restriction on bat sizes, there is an amendment to the run-out law, according to which batsmen will be not out if their bat stays in the air at the time of the stumps being broken, but has been grounded behind the crease initially.
As per Cricinfo, ICC will not apply the new set of rules in the limited-overs series between England and West Indies, and Australia and India because the revised rules come into play midway (September 28) through both series.
