Kuldeep Yadav : I am not bowling any mystery ball, my basics are normal

Chinaman spinner Kuldeep Yadav has stated that he doesn’t have any mystery ball up his sleeves and will focus on getting his basics right to place the deliveries on correct areas against the Australians. The UP spinner has also heaped praise on the guidance of Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni to him excel.

Australia are wary of the threat the spinners can pose as they take on India on away turf and had called upon Kerala chinaman spinner KK Jiyas in the training session to get them prepared ahead of the first ODI on Sunday. India have been more reliant on the wrist spinners in the recently concluded away series against Sri Lanka and West Indies and are looking to continue the trend in this series too. Kuldeep Yadav, alongside Yuzvendra Chahal, remains one of their lethal options in that area and India’s young spin prodigy knows that the Aussies will come fully prepared against him.

Speaking to India Express, the Chinaman bowler stated, “No doubt the Australian batsmen will be going through the videos and practising various tactics to counter my bowling. However, I am unperturbed by them and am concentrating on my basics. My focus is on controlling the ball and working on my strengths.”

Yadav has previously played against Australia in the Dharmasala Test earlier this year where he took four wickets and gave away 91 runs in 28 overs. However, the 22-year-old believes that the Kangaroos will be under pressure to counter him despite being acquainted with his style of bowling.

He said, “I have no worries as long as I turn the ball both ways if I flight or deceive the batsman… I am not bowling any mystery ball, my basics are normal and hence I like to keep things simple. Yes, they might start picking me better but if I can keep bowling in the correct areas then I will keep troubling the batsman.”

Despite having many variations in his arsenal that includes the effective flipper, Yadav believes that chinaman delivery is his strongest suit and he falls back to it whenever in doubt or under attack.

He said, “I have been learning all the variations since my childhood and now my aim is to control them. I always back my strength which is my chinaman delivery. They are useful when the batsman tends to attack but when I am under pressure I always back my chinaman delivery to get me wickets.”

The boy from Kanpur also revealed how skipper Virat Kohli and Mahendra Singh Dhoni have helped him to express himself without many worries and providing him crucial insights at every step.

“Mahi bhai and Virat bhai support me a lot. As a spinner and a bowler, Kohli bhai gives complete freedom, something which is needed by youngsters. Behind the stumps, Mahi bhai keeps talking to me during a game and gives me crucial insights.”
