Former Pakistan batsman Zaheer Abbas reckons Virat Kohli has already achieved the title of ‘Legend of the game’ based on how he dominates bowlers across all three formats of cricket. Zaheer also heaped praise for the Pakistan bowling attack who have put in some impressive displays off late.

Former Pakistan batsman, Zaheer Abbas, is held in high regard as one of the most stylish players to have graced the sport of cricket over the years. Zaheer was the first Asian batsman to reach the landmark milestone of 100 First Class centuries. The Pakistan stalwart is the latest to praise the batting maestro of Indian skipper - Virat Kohli - after his consistency with the bat has elevated him to number one in ICC rankings.

Abbas also went one step ahead and labeled Kohli as a ‘Legend of the game’ due to the ease at which he dominated the bowlers of the current generation across all three formats of the game.

“For me, a legend is one who dominates his own generation and Kohli is doing that with a degree of ease. That makes him already a legend. Kohli plays with a lot of authority on both sides of the wicket, giving you the impression that he is a class player. His feet movement is extremely assured and there is an element of fearlessness in his game which I really admire,” Zaheer told TOI in an interview.

The Indian captain’s recent knocks of 149 and 51 during the Edgbaston Test made Zaheer believe that 29-year old should now be regarded as one of the world’s best batsmen across all generations.

“I have seen a lot of great Indian players and he is right up there. I don’t like comparing generations, because each era has its own demands, but Kohli is as good as anybody else. He showed that he can be good in English conditions and I am expecting good things from him,” Zaheer added.

The Pakistani batsmen went on to compare India’s underwhelming performance in England to that of Pakistan who toured England earlier and ended the series against the home team at 1-1. Zaheer mentioned how the presence of a quality fast bowling attack over the years has aided Pakistan, giving them edge over their arch-rivals, India.

“You know it’s always about Pakistan’s bowling. They have always had a great attack and even now, it is quite potent. India, on the other hand, always used to be about their batting and it continues to be so. That’s one of the reasons why so many India-Pakistan games used to end in draws, because your batting line-up and our bowling line-up used to cancel each other out,” Zaheer pointed out.
