Rahul Dravid highlights Virat Kohli’s success across all three formats of the game as an excellent example for young cricketers who aspire to make it to the big stage. Dravid, who inspired the U-19 cricket team to a World Cup win, believes that Test cricket is the hardest form of the game.

Rahul Dravid was on the receiving end of praise and plaudits as he led the young Indian U-19 cricket team to the World Cup trophy earlier this year. The Indian colts, led by Prithvi Shaw, were impressive all throughout the course of the tournament as they remained unbeaten in the competition held in New Zealand.

The former Indian batsman revealed that he always asks his players to play Test cricket as much as possible as he reckoned that the longest format of the game is also the hardest one. Dravid, who played 164 Test matches for India and scored 13,288 runs in the process, highlighted the growth of Virat Kohli as an excellent example for youngsters looking to make it big across all three formats.

“I always tell them (Under-19 players) you will get the greatest satisfaction is playing in Test cricket. Test cricket is the hardest form of the game. Nothing tests you like Test cricket. Over a period of five days, you are tested physically, mentally, technically, emotionally. So that’s the challenge. I tell U-19 kids that if you want to be challenged to your then test cricket is what you should try and play.

“If you don’t play Test cricket, there are other forms of the game, as well. I love T20 and ODI cricket. They are very skillful forms of the game. People like Virat Kohli are great examples who have shown that you could succeed in all form of the game. It is not easy. Not many people have done but that should be your goal,” Dravid told ANI reporters

The 45-year old added that emerging cricketers are not actively interested in Test cricket as they are drawn towards the shorter formats of the game like ODI cricket and T20 cricket. Dravid, nicknamed ‘The Wall’, T said that he always tells his players that playing Test cricket is the greatest form of satisfaction in the game.
