Indian fielding coach, R Shridhar, feels that MS Dhoni’s wicket-keeping skills are so unique that there should be a research paper written on just about how magnificent his style really is. In the ongoing series, Dhoni became the first Indian keeper to effect 400 dismissals in ODIs alone.
Dhoni may not be as young as he used to be anymore, but that does not stop him from putting in some marvellous display’s behind the stump to help the Indian bowlers pick up some crucial wickets. The Indian Test team certainly missed his presence during the 2-1 Test series loss to the South Africans last month, as Wriddhiman Saha and Parthiv Patel struggled to keep up the standard set by Dhoni behind the wickets.
Ever since his first match as a keeper, MS Dhoni has amassed 295 catches and 106 stumpings in 316 ODI matches. Sridhar admitted that Dhoni is not big on wicket-keeping drills during training sessions, but manages to surprise everyone with some swift stumpings and quick run-outs.
