Cameron White found himself in the Australian ODI squad as a replacement for the injured Chris Lynn, as he eyes a comeback against England after a gap of almost three years. Meanwhile, Glenn Maxwell continued to get overlooked by the selectors despite performing well in the BBL this season.

After dominating the Ashes series and thrashing England 4-0, the Australian contingent is leaving no stone unturned in order to achieve the same feat in the upcoming series with their European counterparts. And their string of surprising selections continued as the management opted to select Australian all-rounder, Cameron White, in the light of the recent injury to Queensland’s Chris Lynn. The veteran from Victoria, who has featured in 88 ODIs and 47 T20Is, admitted that the call-up was surprising for him.

"I was very surprised this morning when (Australian chief selector) Trevor Hohns rang me. In the back of my mind I never really gave up all hope. I'd like to think I can go into it not putting too much pressure on myself but I probably will .... (not knowing) how big of an opportunity it is and how long it'll last." White said in Melbourne on Thursday.

White hasn’t played ODI cricket for a period of nearly three years but finds himself in the thick of things at the moment, with the 2018 World Cup now seemingly a fairly realistic goal.

"It's just going to be up to me to make the most of it. Hopefully, I can. Making a few runs in the Big Bash hasn't hurt. Maybe it is a little ironic, (although) I'd like to think that my one-day cricket for Victoria hasn't hurt my chances of getting this opportunity." White said in an interview to News 18.

Meanwhile, Glenn Maxwell was given another stern message from the Australian hierarchy after being snubbed for the second time in just over a week as selectors reiterated their stance on the out-of-favour all-rounder. The 29-year-old, who made one of the best Test centuries on the subcontinent last year, has failed to make it to the Test and ODI sides in the past two months.

With Chris Lynn and Cameron White now ahead of him in the 50-over format, Maxwell now finds himself in an uphill battle to get back into the squad and faces stiff competition from newcomers such as Ashton Turner, Ashton Agar and D'Arcy Short and forgotten man Peter Handscomb.
