Indian senior coach Ravi Shastri is adamant that his side will not give any excuses on this UK tour after reports emerged that the visitors were not happy with pitch and outfield at the Essex county ground. Shastri also added that the excessive heat was a factor of concern for ‘cricketing reasons’.

Team India are gearing up for the much-awaited challenge as they go up against the might Britishers on their home turf in the upcoming five-match Test series. After winning the T20I series and losing the ODI series, Virat Kohli & Co. will look to exact revenge on the three lions squad not only to emerge the victorious as they face each other in the first match on August 1.

However, reports recently emerged on various platforms that the Men in Blue were unhappy with the pitch conditions and the outfield of the four-dayer against Essex in the county ground ahead of the first Test. The pitch conditions and heatwave were so severe that India even asked to slash a day, but coach Ravi Shastri later denied any such rumors as he said that his side won’t be giving any excuses on this tour.

“My philosophy is very simple – (in) your country, I don’t ask questions. (In) my country, you don’t ask. I said (to groundsmen) leave it, and don’t take anything off. One thing, on this trip, you will never see this Indian team giving an excuse as regarding conditions or the pitch. Our challenge is to beat them. We take pride in performing wherever we go and we want to be the best traveling side in the world. The last person to complain will be this Indian team (sic), so I want to clarify this very clearly,” Shastri said in a pre-match conference.

The Indians will look to do better than they did in England as compared to their performance in 2014. Meanwhile, Shastri also spoke about how the existing weather conditions will prove to be an obstacle for both the teams and not just the Indians.

“The game was reduced from four days to three because of the logistics and the weather prevailing. We had an opportunity to practice three days in Birmingham, which is the Test match venue.

“If we had played four days here we would have lost that one day there because of travel. As simple as that because the prerogative whether to play a two-day, three-day or four-day game lies entirely with the traveling team,” Shastri explained.
