Dilip Vengsarkar roped in as Chief Mentor of T20 Mumbai League

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has appointed former India cricketer and captain and current MCA chief selector Dilip Vengsarkar as the chief mentor for the inaugural edition of the T20 Mumbai League. The tournament will be held at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai from March 11 to 21.

Former India captain and Chairman of the National selection committee was an elegant stroke player who held a pivotal position in the Indian cricket squad. He represented Bombay in the Ranji Trophy. Along with Sunil Gavaskar, he was a key player in the Indian batting line up in the late 70s and early 80s. As per the Deloitt rankings he was rated as the world's best batsman for the maximum period of 21 months during 1986-87-88 seasons.

Vengsarkar was awarded the prestigious Arjuna Award for his on-field performances in 1981. For his contribution to Indian cricket, the Government of India decorated him with the Padma Shri honour in 1987. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) presented him with the CK Naidu Lifetime Achievement award.

On the appointment, Dilip Vengsarkar said, “It’s an honour to be a part of the inaugural edition of Mumbai’s very on T20 league. As the Chief Mentor, I aim to encourage and nurture young cricketers for a successful performance on home turf. This is a great platform for Mumbai cricketers to shine and make a mark in early on in their careers, leading to a promising future.”
