AB de Villiers, who hasn’t played the last two matches for Royal Challengers Bangalore due to viral flu, is likely to be fit for the match against Chennai Super Kings. He believes that there is a sense of fight and determination in the squad to perform well and they are yet to deliver their best.

Currently placed fifth on the points table, Royal Challengers Bangalore have won just three out of the eight matches they have played so far. Winning their last 2 matches, they seemed to have found their form. AB de Villiers, who wasn’t in the team for the last 2 matches due to severe viral flu, stated that he was in terrible condition in the last four days, but has been improving and might be available for selection in the match against CSK on Saturday.

“The last four days have been a blur I have been suffering from severe viral flu, one of the most debilitating illnesses I have ever experienced. Aside from one visit to the hospital, I have barely left my hotel room. Sleep has been almost impossible, and the migraine headaches have been extreme,” de Villiers wrote in Friday’s column for TOI.

“The good news is that my condition is now improving every day and, as the aches ease and I start to get some proper sleep, we are very hopeful that I will be available for selection to play in RCB’s next match, against CSK in Pune on Saturday.”

RCB, who kept their hopes to qualify for the knockouts alive by defeating Mumbai, are at a stage where they need to win all their remaining matches. Their next encounter is against rampaging Chennai Super Kings on Saturday, who have been consistent throughout the tournament and currently hold the top spot in the points table, which only makes things harder for the Bangalore-based team. RCB would be hoping de Villiers to make his comeback soon, given that he has been in top form this season, scoring 280 runs in six matches. And de Villiers believed that they could still make it to the playoffs and RCB has not lived up to the potential they have yet.

“With a record of having won three and lost five in eight matches, we are now lying fifth in the table, still very much in contention, still keenly aware that we have not yet consistently performed to our potential, and still believing our best cricket is yet to come,” he wrote.

“It was frustrating for me to miss two home matches at the Chinnaswamy, but I was able to follow both games on television… even if, to be honest, most of the time, it was only possible to watch with one eye open because of the throbbing pain in my head,” the South African wrote.

AB de Villiers felt that there was a real sense of fight and determination among the boys, which would help them in turning things around in the business end of the tournament.

“There is a real sense of fight and determination in this RCB squad. We might have underperformed at stages, notably in the closing overs with bat and ball, but I sensed a strong spirit among players and coaches when we assembled a few weeks ago; it’s still there, and this will serve us well in the business end of the tournament,” the talismanic African wrote.
