Sunrisers Hyderabad coach Tom Moody has heaped praise on team skipper Kane Williamson’s unique ability to adapt across the various formats in the sport of cricket after his performances in the IPL this year. In the absence of David Warner, Williamson has amassed 493 runs at an average of 61.62.

Kane Williamson has been one of the most consistent performers with the bat on the international stage ever since he made his debut for his country back in 2010. The Kiwi batsman has come a long way since then as he is regarded as one of the top four batsmen in the world in the limited overs format alongside former Aussie skipper Steven Smith, Indian captain Virat Kohli, and English skipper Joe Root.

Since being bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2015, Williamson has been a decent contributor with the bat for the team, but it wasn’t until this season that he has truly transformed into an IPL star in the absence of skipper Warner.

SRH head coach Tom Moody claimed that the secret to Williamson’s success lies in his ability to adapt to all formats of the game and play accordingly.

“He has the ability to adapt from Tests to ODIs to T20s, and that’s why we bought him on the first place.  To be honest, it’s not been a surprise for us (to see Kane scoring so well in T20s). Kane has been a good T20 player for a number of years. People now are getting to see the versatility in him,” said Moody to TOI.

Williamson has already notched up 493 runs from just 11 games in this year’s edition of the IPL at a strike rate of 135.43. The Kiwi batsman has scored six half-centuries this season and the up-and-down form of the likes of Shikhar Dhawan and Manish Pandey has made the skipper perform even more consistently for the benefit of the team.

SRH are set to take on MS Dhoni’s yellow brigade in what promises to be a thrilling top-of-the-table encounter in today’s game.
