Ranji Trophy | Elite C Day 4: Biplab Samantaray’s ton helps Odisha draw against Haryana

Biplab Samantaray scored his sixth first-class hundred to ensure a draw for Odisha against Haryana in the Elite Group C game in Bhubaneswar. In another encounter of the group, Parvez Rasool’s hundred went in vain as Rajasthan defeated Jammu and Kashmir by 75 runs to secure six points.

Odisha vs Haryana 

Brief Scores: Odisha 324, 267/7 (Biplab Samantaray 103*, Subhranshu Senapati 45; Jayant Yadav 2/45) drew against Haryana 442 (Himanshu Rana 164, Chaitanya Bishnoi 75; Debabrata Pradhan 3/96)

Odisha skipper Biplab Samantaray and young Subhranshu Senapati added 92 runs for the sixth wicket in the second innings to save the round one game against Haryana. Odisha at one stage, were 99/4 when these two were at the crease. Senapati went back to the pavilion for 45 while Samantaray carried on with his innings and notched up his sixth hundred in first-class cricket. The game ended in a draw as Odisha didn’t lose wickets in the second innings and they were 267/7 when it was called stumps on the final day. Jayant Yadav and Tinu Kundu picked up two wickets each for the visitors. Himanshu Rana from Haryana was awarded Man of the Match for his hundred in the first innings.

Rajasthan vs Jammu and Kashmir

Brief Scores: Jammu and Kashmir 204, 319 (Parvez Rasool 110, Ahmed Bandy 62; Nathu Singh 4/83) lost to Rajasthan 379 & 219/4 decl

Jammu and Kashmir put up a good show on the final day after some terrible performance in the first few days in the game against Rajasthan in Jaipur. Parvez Rasool led from the front with his ninth first-class hundred while Ahmed Bandy got 62 in the top-order. Chasing 395 to win, J and K were bowled out for 319 on the final day with Nathu Singh and Rahul Chahar picking up four wickets each for Rajasthan.

Jharkhand vs Assam

Brief Scores: Assam 298, 140/2 (Sibsankar Roy 52*, Gokul Sharma 48*; Anukul Roy 2/55) drew against Jharkhand 344, 230/4 (Ishan Kishan 120; Rahul Singh 1/25)

The game between Assam and Jharkhand ended up in a draw as bad light stopped play in Ranchi. Jharkhand declared their first innings for 230/4 with captain Ishan Kishan getting 120 in the second innings. With a possibility of a draw, Assam scored 140/2 in their second innings with Sinsankar Roy and Gokul Sharma remaining unbeaten in the middle with scores of 52 and 48 respectively. 

Tripura vs Services

Brief Scores: Services 238, 164/6 (Ravi Chauhan 47; Manisankar Murasingh 2/35) drew against Tripura 360, 232/2 (Udiyan Bose 109, Smit Patel 56; Vikas Yadav 1/47)

Bad light stopped the play at Agartala when Services were 164/6 in their second innings after Tripura scored 232/2 in their second with Udiyan Bose getting to his hundred and Smit Patel, and Bishal Ghosh bringing up their respective half-centuries. Bishal was awarded Man of the Match for his sensational batting performance throughout the game against Services. Ravi Chauhan was the top-scorer for Services in the second innings while Manisankar Murasingh, Harmeet Singh and Rana Dutta picked up two wickets each for the home side.
