After getting to her maiden T20I hundred, Harmanpreet Kaur has revealed that she was not looking at the runs that she was scoring rather her focus was on the total which could win them the match. Kaur scored 103 in the first game of ICC World T20 as India defeated New Zealand by 34 runs.

After winning the toss and batting first, India was in dire straits at one stage with the scorecard reading 40/3 after Dayalan Hemalatha got out in the sixth over. Captain Kaur then led from the front and stitched an important 134-run stand for the fourth wicket to propel India to a competitive total at the end of the 20th over. Kaur scored 103 off just 51 balls and her knock included seven fours and eight sixes. She was ably supported by Jemimah Rodrigues at the other end and she scored 59 off 45 deliveries. India managed to score 194 runs in stipulated 20 overs which the Kiwis failed to chase down at the end. Kaur became the first Indian to hit a century women's T20 Internationals

Speaking about her knock after the game, Kaur said, “I was not looking at how many runs I was getting, I was looking at how many we needed to win the game. We knew they have really good batters, they have Sophie Devine and Bates, we knew if we scored just 150, we may not (win the game)."

Kaur was struggling with cramps and was not feeling well when she came to the ground for the match. She even found it very difficult to run between the wickets during the big fourth-wicket partnership that turned the game in India’s favour.

"Yesterday, I was having little bit back problem. In the morning, I was not feeling well, when I came to the ground I was feeling a little low and getting some cramps. When initially I was running twos, I got a little cramp, after that the physio gave me medicine, and a little bit it settled down," told Kaur, reported PTI.

"Then I thought instead of running too much, if I could get more big shots … because you run too much, you get more cramps. Then I told Jemi (Jemimah Rodrigues), 'if you give the strike to me, I can go for more big shots’.”

Chasing 195 to win, New Zealand managed only 160/9 in 20 overs. For India, Dayalan Hemalatha and Poonam Yadav picked up three wickets each while Suzie Bates was the top-scorer for New Zealand with 67 runs off 50 deliveries.
