VIDEO | Radha Yadav channels her inner Jonty Rhodes to pull off stunner
The Indian Women's win against Australia was one of their best with Smriti Mandhana’s 83 taking them to the top of the Group B table in the World T20. However, the star of the evening was undoubtedly Radha Yadav, who ran back from her follow through to jump on the offside and complete a stunner.
Amita Sharma’s forward-diving catch at mid-on against New Zealand to dismiss Amy Sattherwaite in the 2009 Women’s World Cup created a rage on Youtube and while it may seem a simple one now, a girl picking a catch like that in 2009 forced Wasim Akram to describe it as a “blinder” during commentary. Since then, women’s cricket has gone on a complete metamorphosis and the level of fielding has surely developed, with the latest testimony being Radha Yadav’s stunning catch to dismiss Australia’s Delissa Kimmince.
In the last group game of the series, India were at the pole position with the Southern Stars needing 62 runs off 15 balls - a practically impossible task. The result was a given when left-arm spinner Radha Yadav bowled a flighted delivery outside off stump to Kimmince. It was there to be hit and Kimmince swung her bat too, only to mistime the shot to mid-on.
While Yadav was on her follow-through, wicket-keeper Taniya Bhatia screamed “pakad le” at the top of her voice. Immediately, the 18-year-old gathered herself and ran back to mid-on area to jump and complete a two-handed stunner. Her acrobatics not only helped India close out the game a bit too early but also earned her the moniker “The flying Yadav” on the social media.
