CoA demands Mithali Raj's ICC World T20 fitness records

The Committee of Administrators (CoA) have asked the Indian management staff to send in the fitness logs of Mithali Raj after rumours surrounding her exclusion from the semi-final loss to England. They have also asked for an explanation from two senior officials in the BCCI management.

The Indian women’s cricket team, who were unbeaten throughout the ICC Women’s World T20, suffered a disappointing loss to the England team in the semi-finals of the tournament. After impressing all through the tournament, Harmanpreet Kaur & Co. but they failed to live up to expectations in the semis. A lot of questions were raised on the Indian management’s decision to overlook the in-form Mithali Raj due to ‘medical reasons’.

The recent backlash from Annisha Gupta and others has prompted the Committee of Administrators (CoA) to ask the backroom staff to hand over Mithali’s fitness logs for review.  The CoA are also strongly concerned by the fact that minutes of the selection meeting before the semi-final which have been leaked to the media and have are also awaiting an explanation from senior officials in the BCCI management, which also included BCCI CEO - Rahul Johri.

Women’s team chief coach, Ramesh Powar, and manager Trupti Bhattacharya are in line to meet the CoA and Johri on Monday to hand over their report on India's performance at the World T20. Speculation that includes corruption and biased behavior is rife in the Indian media after Raj was declared fit on the eve of the semi-final, but the team management decided to leave her out as they wanted to stick to the "winning combination" that had beaten Australia, Kaur said after the loss to England.

According to a report in TOI, the decision to drop Mithali was taken at the selection meeting a couple of hours before the semi-final on Thursday. That meeting also was attended by national selector Sudha Shah and team manager Bhattacharya.

"I, as manager, convened the meeting. They (captain, coach and selector) discussed the wicket and the coach expressed that the same winning combination against Australia should play. Harman and Smriti shared the same view and also told the selector, Sudha Shah, that an extra bowler would help the team," Bhattacharya wrote in her report.

Bhattacharya has sent the reports, as per protocol, only to Johri and Saba Karim( BCCI GM). however, the duo are have reportedly responded to the CoA and claimed that hey had no knowledge about the leak to the media.
