BCCI refuses Mumbai Cricket Association's request to host ODI for them at Wankhede
MCA is in a big danger of failing to host the fourth ODI between India and West Indies at Wankhede after BCCI declined their offer to host it for them. The reason has mostly been a lack of signing authority who would disburse the payments and also the vexed issue of complimentary tickets.
On April 6, 2018, the Bombay High Court had appointed CoA members VN Kanade and Hemant Gokhale to supervise the functioning of the MCA. With their term ending on September 15, the CoA had then given the responsibility to CEO CS Naik but he lacked the authority to sign cheques on MCA's behalf.
The situation became so severe that the cricket association had even failed to pay the hotel bills for the Mumbai team during the Vijay Hazare tournament in Bangalore, and eventually ended up requesting BCCI's help. Now with the fourth ODI scheduled on October 29, the MCA
In its recent meeting with BCCI CEO Rahul Johri, MCA was represented by Naik and managing committee members Ganesh Iyer, Armaan Mallick, and Unmesh Khavilkar where the situation was discussed although a final word is yet to be taken.
"We explained to Johri how difficult our situation is right
"We also explained to Johri the problem with the complimentary passes policy of the Committee of Administrators (CoA). We need to give four passes each to our 330 club members, apart from reserving quite a few for various government agencies who help us in conducting the match," said the source.
