After a disastrous batting performance in the Asia Cup, MS Dhoni is likely to turn up for Jharkhand in the knockouts of the Vijay Hazare Trophy after the team qualified for the quarter-finals of the national one-day competition. Rohit Sharma will also be playing for his side Mumbai.

Despite a remarkable win in the Asia Cup, Dhoni was completely under fire for his lackadaisical batting performance and since then, has been training with the Jharkhand team although he didn’t feature in the group league encounters. Now, with the side cementing their position in the knockout stages, Dhoni could play for the side in the quarterfinals.

There have been growing concerns about his batting performance for his repeated failure to deliver the required pace in the middle overs, even though he has the safest pair of gloves along with an astute tactical mind. Dhoni has played only 15 ODIs and 7 T20 Internationals in 2018, which amounts to 22 playing days for India, proving his lack of match time very evident. In 2018, Dhoni has scored 148 runs so far in 11 ODIs with a highest score of 42.

Former Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar feels that MS Dhoni should be focused more on domestic cricket whenever he gets the opportunity.

"Dhoni should be playing domestic cricket and should be playing the four-day games as well because he will help so many of the emerging players from Jharkhand.

"I know he travels with the team (Jharkhand), he acts as their mentor but to actually have him playing with them is a great inspiration. He will be a great inspiration to the younger players in the team," Gavaskar told India Today.

The wicket-keeper batsman, who is regarded as one of the greatest finishers of the game, has not been a valuable asset to the team in Asia Cup 2018. He ended up the tournament scoring overall 77 runs in 6 matches with a strike rate of 62.09, where highest score leads to 36 runs.
