VIDEO | Bails refuse to come off despite MS Dhoni’s no-look back-flick lights off the wicket
Karma is a bitch - MS Dhoni understood it in the hardest way possible as the bails refused to come off the woodwork despite the stump being lighted. Otherwise, it could have been a Youtube classic solely because of Dhoni’s attempt to run KL Rahul out with a trademark no-look back-flick.
MS Dhoni’s luck hasn’t exactly been on his side in the game ever since he refused to go for a review despite Imran Tahir’s insistence, which the replays later suggested was actually a dismissal. If Dhoni thought that it was the end of his bad omen in the game, the bails had a special offer for Rahul, just like they had for the CSK skipper against Rajasthan Royals.
On the fourth delivery of the 13th over, Jadeja bowled an arm-ball to KL Rahul, who simply defended it towards fine-leg and set off for a single. However, Dhoni was alert behind the wicket and, seeing Rahul trying to steal one intelligently reached near the ball and back-flicked it towards the stumps, in a way only he can.
The flick was accurate enough to hit the stumps directly when Rahul was outside of the crease, but to everyone’s surprise, the bails didn’t come off despite the flashlight glowing in full flow. Rahul was quick to notice that and instantly signalled the umpire for the same, but the leg-umpire went upstairs to check it. The eventual decision, however, was a no-brainer as the umpire sided with KL Rahul and declared him not out.
