IPL 2019 | MS Dhoni was after some clarity and it didn’t seem coming, reveals Stephen Fleming

After the controversy surrounding MS Dhoni and the two on-field umpires during the game between Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals, Stephen Fleming commented that Dhoni wanted some clarity which didn’t seem coming. Fleming also added that the rights and wrongs will be discussed by everybody.

Yesterday’s IPL game between CSK and RR was a thrilling one and also went all down to the wire till the last delivery of the match. However, the most talked about topic since last evening is Dhoni’s argument with the umpires in the final over. Dhoni, who had just got out of the previous ball, walked on to the pitch all the way from the dugout after the umpire at the bowler’s end had called a no-ball for height which was later overturned by the square leg umpire who had a better view of it.

As Dhoni continued to draw flack from many, Fleming has said that the CSK skipper only wanted some clarity on the issue and that is why he rushed on to the field.

"Our understanding was that the umpire at the bowler's end had called the no ball and then there was confusion around whether it was a no ball or not. MS was after some clarity and it didn't seem to be coming. So, he took the opportunity to go out in there and discuss it with the umpires. That's how I saw it and that's how I discussed it with him afterward," Fleming said after the game, reported Cricbuzz.

The former Kiwi skipper also said that the incident will be discussed afterwards by everyone including Dhoni. He also said that Dhoni is pretty calculated and the event was unusual for someone like the CSK skipper.

"He only just wanted clarity. The rights and wrongs will be discussed by everybody, including Mahi, I'm sure. But, I think, it'll be a discussion for the umpires afterwards and I am a watcher as you guys are, for now. But he was certainly fired up about the way the decision was handled and why it was over-turned or if it was over-turned. So, there was a lack of clarity, obviously, for him and he wanted to get it clarified at that key moment. It's unusual but he's usually pretty calculated. It'll be something he will be questioned about for sure, for a long time,” said Fleming.
