Vinod Rai has stated that every role can’t be seen through the prism of conflicts when he was asked about the conflict of interest case raised for Delhi Capitals appointing Sourav Ganguly as their advisor. The former Indian skipper will stand in front of the ombudsman this weekend in this regard.

Several conflicts have been raised for appointing former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly for multiple roles and now its has seen a spotlight when he was appointed as the advisor for Delhi Capitals. A case was launched and further BCCI ombudsman has asked Ganguly to be present in front of him by this weekend.

While addressing the topic, Vinod Rai came out to say that if every ex-cricketer’s role in Indian cricket is seen as conflicts on every small matter, then nobody will be left there to serve the team.

Individuals who have some knowledge about these discussions said that Rai has repeated the sentiment on many occasions and then it was Ganguly who went ahead and accepted the role of ‘advisor’ at the Delhi-based franchise. They also added that the situation is relied upon two things one is to find whether the former Indian skipper is conflicted or not and the second is to find the seriousness of the conflicts and it can be ignored. They also said that the state confusion will be repeating if the authorities start missing the two.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has produced six pages of its new constitution to define the term ‘conflict’. The Clause 38(4) has a list that clarifies that no individual may occupy more than one of the following posts at a single time except it is prescribed under rules, but the list does not mention about the role of advisor which is Ganguly’s official role at Delhi Capitals and terms like “Team Official” and “governance, management or employment of a franchise” are mentioned and these positions can’t be held if someone is an office bearer of BCCI and the question is ‘Advisor’ the same as ‘Team official’ of which supreme court-appointed ombudsman DK Jain wants to ascertain Ganguly this weekend.

Many sources say that Ganguly is intended to sit in front of the ombudsman to deal with the tractable and intractable conflicts. Former cricketers came out with an opinion that the conflict must see its end now since it leads to the confused debate.

Further, BCCI CEO Rahul Johri has written a letter to the ombudsman that if Ganguly produced every disclosure he should be allowed to continue and it has to be signed by Johri but the individual who is privy to this discussion said that the ombudsman should ask the CoA members opinion directly.

Former Indian captain’s multiple roles in BCCI, IPL and Cricket Association in Bengal and as well as his position in sports outside cricket has created the discussion and this has been considered as ‘conflict’ with what  supreme court mandated back in the Lodha Committee recommendations 2016.
