Dinesh Chandimal named in Sri Lanka's probables list for New Zealand Test series
Dinesh Chandimal makes the cut as Sri Lanka selection committee led by Ashantha de Mel release list of 22 probables for the upcoming Test series against New Zealand. The former captain hasn't played for the Sri Lanka in six months after being axed following a disappointing series against Australia.
Dinesh Chandimal was the first Sri Lankan cricketer to lead the national team in a day-night Test match and was a key member of 2012 ICC World Twenty20 runner-up team and 2014 ICC World Twenty20 winning team. However, the veteran cricketer has suffered a fall from grace ever since the series against Australia after which he was dropped from national team.Â
Having not featured for the Test side in the last six months, Chandimal is in contention to feature for Sri Lanka in the upcoming Test series against New Zealand after he was named in the 22-man probables list by the Sri Lanka selection committee led by chairman Ashantha de Mel. Apart from Chandimal, the selectors also brought back spinners Akila Dananjaya and Dilruwan Perera to the Test squad.Â
The Lankans will take on the Kiwis on home soil in a two-match Test series against New Zealand that will start on August 14. This will be Sri Lanka's first assignment in the Test format since their historic win in South Africa earlier this year and will fall under the ICC Test championship.Â
