Maiden title chasing Somerset to sign Murali Vijay
Somerset, who are trying to win their first-ever Championship, are trying to land Indian opener for the county season’s final few weeks. Reports suggest that the player and club have already agreed to the terms and now await approval from Vijay’s state association - Tamil Nadu Cricket Association.
Cricinfo have reported that the player and the club are on the same page and should the TNCA green light the move, Vijay will be available for the final three games of the Division 1 Championship.
Somerset are having a great run in County cricket this year and as the Championship enters the final stages, they find themselves trailing leaders Essex by just two points. It could very well come down to the last game of the season when Somerset taking on Essex in what could prove to be a grandstand finish.
But that is not the only thing that could make this move special. Should Vijay sign with Somerset, he would be going up against a team he represented at the end of the 2018 season. While playing for Essex, the Indian opener scored three half-centuries to go with a triple-digit score to end the season with an average of 64.59 in five innings.
Somerset are not the only club that is making moves though. In Division 2, Northamptonshire are trying to acquire the services of Windies pacer Kemar Roach for the last few games in the hopes of gaining promotion to the top division of County Cricket.
