Windies skipper Kieron Pollard has admitted that his side were underdogs against the home side ahead of the series while believing that it would only motivate them to perform. Execution and belief in talent alongside following the basics are the keys to making the Windies side win the series.

West Indies have a hard series ahead of them as they face India away from home. Kieron Pollard believes that having the ‘underdog’ tag ahead of the series might actually be beneficial for them and said his team would look to focus on the basics.

Ahead of Pollard and the Windies side lies a dominant home force in the form of Team India. India’s last two T20I series at home have resulted in comfortable victories. For the tourists, the conditions are going to be as hard as they expect, however, with the appointment of Monty Desai, they look to tackle their batting issues.

"We are coming up against a harder opposition, we would be the underdogs and that's fine but then again it is about going out there and executing and believing in your talent, once you do that anything is possible," Pollard was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

The reigning T20 World Champions Windies will begin their tour on December 6, in the first T20I in Hyderabad before they play their second in Thiruvananthapuram on the 8th with the final game in Mumbai on the 11th of December.

"There are boxes which needs to be ticked off, when you do that, most times you end up on the right side of the result,” added Pollard.

Further, the Windies skipper believed that the onus is upon him to help the youngsters in the dressing room, allowing them to express their natural self on the field. Windies are coming off from a 2-1 loss at the hands of the Afghanistan side, and India would be the ideal test for them ahead of the 2020 T20 World Cup.

"And they need the experienced guys also to guide them along so. You know, that's basically my job. In terms of trying to guide them and set them in the right direction,” he concluded.
