Mickey Arthur all set to take charge as Sri Lankan head coach

South African coach Mickey Arthur is all set to be named as the head coach of the Sri Lankan national team on a two-year deal following his exit from the Pakistan national team in a similar role. It is expected that the new Sri Lankan coach would take over in the series against Pakistan.
Mickey Arthur is set to be named as Sri Lanka’s head coach, in a two-year deal following his exit from the Pakistan national team after their dismal exit from the 2019 Cricket World Cup. According to Times Now, the former Pakistan coach was approached by the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) CEO’s Ashley de Silva.
Arthur’s first assignment would be the tour to Pakistan, as cricket returned back to Pakistan after a long hiatus. While Arthur would be relieved to face an under-fire Pakistan side, he would also vary about the team that he possesses ahead of the series. Sri Lankan side, too, like their counterpart, have been under fire in the past for poor shows, including the World Cup where they exited early in the tournament.
"They will all be joining on two-year contracts," SLC CEO was quoted as saying to Times Now.
In a report, according to ESPNCricinfo, it is learnt that the trio of Grant Flower, David Saker and Shane McDermott would accompany the South African in a two-year deal. Flower would serve as the understudy to Arthur, as the batting coach with Saker taking over the bowling department. Alongside the duo, McDermott would take over in the fielding department as they aim to bring the Sri Lankan team back to the glorious Test years.
