We have all been witness to players having a nice healthy banter session with the reporters at press conferences and it’s not just limited to the big guns. Niroshan Dickwella produced gold at the presser, after Day 2 of the first Test against Pakistan, as the reporters kept calling him de Silva.

As fans, we are well aware of the likes of Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni as some of the best when it comes to the witty-responses department. But what Dickwella did with his sense of humour in a similar situation, we only realize how underrated it is.

At the end of Day 2, Sri Lanka’s score read as 263/6 with Dhananjaya de Silva being unbeaten on 72. Dickwella(33), on the other hand, had lost his wicket just a few overs before Stumps. As the wicketkeeper-batsman reached the press conference, the reporters seemed rather confused as to who he was. Since Dhananjaya de Silva has been the highest score for the Lankans, the reporters assumed it to be him. And so it started.

As one of the reporters started to praise the cricketer in the process of forming his question, Dickwella understood that the appreciation was directed to de Silva’s innings. So he, in a light manner, corrected the reporter saying: “I’m Dickwella, not de Silva”. A similar situation arose within a few moments wherein a reporter asked the cricketer whether he wants to score a century. Dickwella, once again, comically responded to this stating, “You mean me[scoring a hundred]? I’m not de Silva, I’m Dickwella. I got out, back to the pavilion” he quipped.

“Maybe second innings[I score the century you’re talking about],” Dickwella clean-swept it with a laugh.
