Virat Kohli is one of the best players of all time, says Shane Warne

Shane Warne has proclaimed that Virat Kohli is one of the greatest players of the game already and his pure competitiveness and desire for cricket, helped him become one. He also mentioned that players will not be remembered for their runs or averages but for the way they play their game.

Shane Warne has said that Kohli is one of the best players of the game and he is a great batsman with all the records that he has achieved so far in his career but he also feels that it is too early to judge him. He feels that people remember a player for the way he plays, more often than not because, at some point in time the benchmarks don’t matter at all.

“Virat is breaking all the records, which is great but I want to wait. See, what people miss is this: You can set benchmarks, score those many centuries, average that high, score a lot many runs. But what people are going to remember you for is the way you played the game.To my mind, what's already evident is that Virat is one of the best players of all time. But I'll judge him at the end of his career,” Warne told TOI.

Comparing the Indian skipper with Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar, Warne said that it is difficult to judge eras as there were many differences. He felt that the conditions were difficult as the ball swung more when Tendulkar played and the 90s bowlers were brutal. Warne had expressed that he loved watching Kohli bat, listening to him and also that he is a big fan of the Indian captain.

“He's fantastic. I love watching him bat and I love listening to him. I am a big fan.He stands up for what he believes in. He speaks how he feels and he's real. He's emotional, a bit too emotional sometimes on the field. But that's the part of the charm,” Warne said.

The legendary leg spinner had continued to laud the Delhi batsman for his passion for the game and his propensity to voice his honest opinions. He further enunciated that world cricket loves Kohli for this quality and it helped him score so many centuries while chasing scores too.

“I think world cricket loves him. Everyone loves Virat Kohli because it's refreshing to hearing him talk so honestly and openly. He loves confrontation. That's why he has those 100s in chases. That's something inbuilt into you. That's not skill or talent. He's got a lot of that. That is just pure competitiveness and pure desire - to get the job done,” the former leg-spinner concluded.
