MS Dhoni Stumps Ayush Badoni in LucknowBadoni

Luck plays a huge role in sports and if lady luck is by your side, more often than not you are likely to come out on top. In the game between Lucknow Super Giants and Chennai Super Kings, Ayush Badoni survived two dismissals before almost escaping the clutches of an MS Dhoni stumping.

LSG found themselves on the backfoot for the first time in the IPL as Chennai managed to restrict the hosts for a mere 42/2 in the powerplay. However, with Mitch Marsh back in the dugout as well, things seemed to be going Chennai’s way in the encounter. Ayush Badoni, though, had other plans as the youngster smashed Jamie Overton for back to back sixes in the 12th over to take the score to 95/3.

Having already bowled two short deliveries in the over, Pathirana went for another short one against Badoni. With width on offer, the batter upper cut the ball right into the hands of Vijay Shankar at third man. However, with two short balls already on the cards, the umpire sent the decision to the third umpire for height. The decision came back in the favour of the Indian batter as the ball had been hit above his shoulder. After a single on the next delivery, Badoni found himself on strike again against Jadeja.

The youngster attempted a reverse sweep and appeared to have missed the ball altogether as he was caught plumb in front. He had a quick chat with his skipper before signalling for a review with no conviction. However, the replays suggested that the ball had grazed his glove to give him another chance in the game.

A couple of deliveries later, he stepped out to attack the spinner and missed the ball again. This time, Dhoni collected the ball and whipped off the bails with the batter nowhere to be seen. As the batter was off to the dugout, he was stopped as the third umpire wanted to check if the veteran keeper had collected the ball infront of the stumps. Even though it was very very close, the ball had been collected behind the stumps.

 Badonis day!
