IPL 2019 | Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore clash to kick start 12th edition

The 12th edition of the Indian Premier League will commence on March 23 with defending champions Chennai Super Kings taking on Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Cauvery Derby at the Chidambaram Stadium. The schedule has been announced for only the first two weeks of the league till April 5.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the dates for first 17 matches of the upcoming edition of IPL. The first game of the tournament will be the South Indian derby between CSK and RCB on March 23. However, the board has mentioned that the schedule is still “subject to the announcement of the Lok Sabha 2019 election dates”. 

"IPL releases the schedule of the first two weeks (17 matches) of the VIP IPL 2019 Season. These are still subject to the announcement of the Lok Sabha 2019 election dates. Once these have been released BCCI will address any issues with the first two weeks and will also prepare a schedule for the remainder of the season working with the local authorities around the polling dates," read the report published by the Indian Premier League.

In the schedule that has been announced, every team barring RCB and DC, are scheduled to play four games, two at home and two away. The afore mentioned teams will play an extra game with Delhi playing their game against Hyderabad at home while the three-time runner-ups will have to travel to Jaipur for their extra game.

“A total of 17 matches will be played during this 2 weeks period across the 8 home venues of the respective franchises. All teams will play minimum of 4 matches with DC and RCB playing 5 matches. Every team will play minimum of 2 home and 2 away matches with DC playing 3 home matches, while RCB will play 3 away matches.”
