IPL 2019 | No opening ceremony this time as money to be donated to martyrs’ families, announces Vinod Rai
CoA chief Vinod Rai has informed that there will be no opening ceremony for the 12th edition of the Indian Premier League to be held from March 23 this year. Rai has also added that the amount of the budget for the ceremony will be donated to the family members of the Pulwama attack martyrs.
In the wake of the ghastly terror attack on Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawans in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir, in which at least 40 personnel were killed, Committee of Administrators (CoA) chief Rai has announced that there will be no IPL opening ceremony. The CoA chief has also made it clear that the budget for the opening ceremony will go to the martyrs’ families.
“We'll not have a regular IPL opening ceremony and the amount of the budget for the opening ceremony will be given to families of the victims of this terror attack,” said Rai, tweeted The Indian Express.
Earlier this week, the BCCI had announced the fixtures of the league only for the first two weeks considering the upcoming general elections in India. The 12th edition of the cash-rich league will be played from March 23 with the defending champions Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore taking on each other in the opening battle at the M Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
