India vs Australia | Rishabh Pant will shine in future, claims Sourav Ganguly
Sourav Ganguly has lavished praise on Indian youngster Rishabh Pant, who has impressed in the recently concluded series win against Australia on foreign soil. Ganguly reckons that Cheteshwar Pujara and Jasprit Bumrah played huge roles in India’s maiden Test series win against the hosts.
The Indian cricket team have drawn plaudits from all across the globe after their recent exploits in the emphatic 2-1 series win against Australia. The likes of Cheteshwar Pujara, Jasprit Bumrah and Virat Kohli impressed against the Aussies as the visitors won their first series on Australian soil. However, another individual who caught the eye in the recent four-match Test series was Delhi youngster Rishabh Pant. The Delhi Capitals player put up a fine show on Day 2 in Sydney when he played a blistering knock of 159* to get India to a huge total of 622/7. Former Indian captain, Sourav Ganguly, talked up the passionate youngster as a star for the future.
"He will be a superb player for India in the future. He has been so good in the series and in future also, he will shine," Ganguly told reporters on the sidelines of Bengal's Ranji Trophy Elite Group B fixture against Punjab.
Pant scored a total of 350 runs in seven innings, the second highest after Cheteshwar Pujara. In addition to that, while behind the stumps he broke the record for most catches - 20 - by an Indian wicketkeeper in a Test series. Despite Pant’s exploits at the SCG, India had to settle for a draw in the last match of the series as rain played spoilsport. However, Ganguly was exuberant over the emphatic 2-1 win against rivals, Australia.
"It's a terrific win. They played excellent cricket throughout and the batting clicked. They scored 400-600 runs and that was the key. Bumrah and Pujara were simply brilliant. They played big roles behind the win," Ganguly added.
Jasprit Bumrah claimed 21 wickets in four Tests at an average of 17.00, which also included a fifer. Meanwhile, Pujara amassed 521 runs at 74.42, scoring three
