Cricket can often be a dangerous game and the untimely injuries on the field add to its unpredictable nature. Today, however, Ben Cutting must have been gutted at the umpire after his catch was deemed as a dropped one despite gobbling up the ball after copping a severe blow to his nose.

It was a difficult day-out for Ben Cutting today. In the match against Melbourne Renegades, he suffered a blow to his nose, but he would remember it for more reasons than that. Fresh from the national duty, Marcus Harris skied a James Pattinson delivery on the fourth ball of the very first over and it seemed certain that he would be punished for his over-ambitious hoick.

Cutting, who was fielding at mid-wicket, was in the right position to grab the catch, but the ball took a reverse cup approach in front of his face before being smashed him around the nose. However, Cutting was brave enough to collect the ricochet before hurling the ball onto the ground. Remember, he only did so after being in control of things.

However, Harris refused to leave the field and stated that the ball was not in control of the fielder. When the umpires checked the replay, they deemed the ball was not in his hands a sufficient enough amount of time to call it a fair catch, which was surprising as one would safely assume that it was a clean catch.

Cutting required five stitches straight between the eyes but was cleared of a concussion and came out to bowl later in the innings.
