Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul have been suspended until an enquiry is completed in their recent controversial television show comments incident. Earlier, both the players were sent a show cause notice to which they replied promptly but the management did not seem too convinced by their explanation.

Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya and opener KL Rahul have been suspended pending enquiry. They have also been issued a fresh show cause notice informing the development. Earlier, the Committee of Administrators(CoA) member Diana Edulji had sought the opinion of the BCCI’s legal cell regarding the punishment for the players for their comments they made on national television.

"Based on the legal opinion and till the time the final procedure is laid down to address this issue, will recommend that a communication be sent to the concerned players and the team immediately," Edulji said in response to the legal team's email on Friday morning, which has been accessed by ESPNcricinfo.

Earlier, CoA chief Vinod Rai had recommended a ban of two matches on the players but Edulji sent the matter for the legal opinion. Edulji, further in her mail, also explained that the players should be suspended as was the procedure followed for enquiry when Rahul Johri was accused of sexual harassment.

"It will be imperative that the players be put under suspension till a further course of action is decided for this misconduct as was done in the case of CEO when he was sent on leave in the sexual harassment matter."

Earlier, the legal team of the BCCI, in its mail to the CoA, had recommended the action to suspend the players until an enquiry into the matter is concluded. A controversy had erupted around some comments made by both the players on the show “Coffee with Karan” which has led to this action.

"Considering that the inquiry process against the concerned players has commenced and is pending, it is open for the COA to suspend the concerned players (along with their privileges and benefits) pending enquiry and proceeding into the charges of misconduct until final adjudication," the legal team said in its email to the CoA, the office bearers and the BCCI's professional management.
