Crowd booing is not a new thing in India as even Sachin Tendulkar was once booed by his local Wankhede crowd in 2006. However, booing in the domestic cricket was a very rare thing and Cheteshwar Pujara became the victim of it by the Bangalore crowd for not walking despite having a clear nick.
Umpiring standards in Indian domestic cricket has never been close to tolerable and the absence of technology for an event as big as the Ranji Trophy semi-finals brought the discussion back to the fore again. In the first inning, Cheteshwar Pujara was adjudged not out despite having a clear nick on an away-going delivery from Abhimanyu Mithun in the Ranji Trophy semi-final between Karnataka and Saurashtra. That incident didn’t go down well with the Bangalore crowd who were gathered at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru to support the home team, Karnataka.
It was a decision that Karnataka didn’t expect to be adjudged the way it was and Ronit More shared his frustration after the game as well while stating that they had moved on as Pujara couldn’t score big. However, their fans surely hadn’t forgiven the man for not walking off voluntarily.
