The BCCI have zeroed in with the calendar for the upcoming domestic season, with the Duleep Trophy being played as the curtain raiser once again. However, in a crucial development, the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy will be played from October 31 to November 23, before Ranji Trophy begins on November 29.

When the BCCI hosted the domestic captains and coaches conclave in May, several captains raised a complaint about the fact that the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy being conducted after the IPL auction. The primary complaint that it denied players opportunities to impress IPL talent scouts and also robbed the tournament of its relevance. Keeping those complaints in mind, the BCCI announced that Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy this year will run from October 31 to November 23, reported ESPN Cricinfo.

Meanwhile, the Ranji Trophy has been spilt over into March for the first time since 2004-05 and as per the preliminary fixtures for the 2019-20 season, the premier domestic competition in the Country will begin on November 29, with the final slated from February 28, 2020.

Duleep Trophy, which has also been at the receiving end of a lot of criticism for the lack of context, will be played in the same format from August 17 to September 8. Vijay Hazare Trophy, Deodhar Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy - will follow the Duleep Trophy, before the first-class season begins.

While there was a lot of contemplation about the women’s cricket in the first-ever women’s cricket conclave, this year’s women's calendar didn’t have any surprise additions. Earlier, the captains and coaches wanted the addition of an additional inter-zonal 50-overs competition besides the existing 50-overs inter-state tournament to help widen the talent pool.
