Trevor Bayliss expressed his excitement about the World Cup win that has come as the result of the end goal the team had in mind over the last four years. After three unsuccessful attempts at the final stage in World Cups, England beat New Zealand at Lord’s on Sunday in a thriller.

Ever since the loss to Bangladesh in the 2015 World Cup, English cricket has never been the same. They revamped their management, coaching staff, playing style. They put all their emphasis on the ODI side of cricket. In the end, with Sunday’s result, it has all paid off. Bayliss, whose teams had failed thrice previously in finals, is glad that he could help England get over the line.

"It's terribly exciting and justification for how we went about it for the last four years. At different times we have copped a bit of criticism for the way we went about it. But we had an end goal in mind and this is the result. I am one from four now so I am quite happy with at least getting one. To see the joy on the boys faces yesterday and to see the way they celebrated in the dressing room was all worth it,” Bayliss was quoted saying by Cricbuzz.

Their journey to being world champions began in the bilateral series against New Zealand, who they would beat to claim the crown on Sunday. England’s new, aggressive style was announced to the world in that five-match series, where in one game, the fourth ODI, the English boys chased down 350 in 44 overs.

"The way we performed throughout that series, the way Morgs laid things out and gave the guys opportunity to go and express themselves and play in that manner. And seeing us do it and adapt to it so quickly obviously meant that we were good enough to do it. But it's obviously a long road from there to continue to do it and look to improve be more consistent and grow as a team. It's been such a fun journey these last four years," Bayliss said.

At The Oval on Monday, where the hosts held their victory parade, it was all smiles and laughter. But, every single one of them knows that it wasn’t all rosy in their four-year journey. They were thrashed by South Africa at home once, they crashed out of the Champions Trophy semifinal at home, and faced some humiliating losses on away tours. But they responded, everytime, just like they responded after the three losses during the group stage of this World Cup. Bayliss shared the key that gave them such resilience.

"The main plan was to let them go out and test the ceiling of how good they could be. We knew they were going to stuff up. We knew they would lose games and probably lose some games badly but you only get better from making mistakes and seeing how well you can play. Learn from those mistakes with a period of four years to get it right. The talent of the team was obvious very early on," Bayliss added.

The English boys, after some much-needed rest, will take on the Aussies in The Ashes series at home.
