India’s only representative in the ICC panel of Elite Umpires, Sundaram Ravi has been left out of the list for the 2019-20 season after ICC’s performance analysis. Meanwhile, the ICC has now added two new players to the list in the form of England's Michael Gough and Joel Wilson from West Indies.

While the ICC hasn’t given any particular reason for Ravi's omission from the elite umpire’s list, it is clear that the Indian umpire’s performance was under the scanner on more than one occasion. On England's tour of Sri Lanka last year, he failed to signal several no-balls that television replays revealed were wrong. During the last IPL, Ravi failed to notice Lasith Malinga overstepping the crease on the final delivery of match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians and Virat Kohli even went as far as calling the decision "ridiculous". Rohit Sharma had also said that such mistakes cannot afford to happen in any form of cricket.

Meanwhile, ICC has also added Gough and Wilson to the Elite Panel by a selection committee consisting of ICC General Manager - Cricket, Geoff Allardice (Chairman), former player and commentator Sanjay Manjrekar, and match referees Ranjan Madugalle and David Boon. The duo came in as replacements for Ravi and Ian Gould, who retired from umpiring during the World Cup, on the panel.

While former Durham batsman Gough has officiated in nine Tests, 59 ODIs and 14 T20Is in his international career, Wilson has stood in 13 Tests, 63 ODIs and 26 T20Is.

"Being an elite official is an extremely challenging job. Every decision is scrutinised by millions of fans and each match official is subject to rigorous ongoing performance assessments throughout the year,” Adrian Griffith, the ICC senior manager of umpires and referees, said, reported Cricinfo.

"We are fortunate to have some fantastic officials who are able to withstand the pressures of the job and deliver consistently on the international stage. Michael and Joel are deserving additions to the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Umpires and I wish them all the best for the coming season and for the future."

Meanwhile, the ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees is unchanged, with David Boon, Chris Broad, Jeff Crowe, Ranjan Madugalle, Andy Pycroft, Richie Richardson and Javagal Srinath being the seven officials on the ICC’s List.
