IND vs NZ | Rains play the spoilsport as match gets washed out without toss
The rain gods denied from showing any mercy whatsoever in Nottingham as a result of which, umpires Marais Erasmus and Paul Reiffel decided to abandon the game without the toss. Both India and New Zealand get a point apiece as a result of which, the latter stand at top of the points table.
The incessant rains played spoilsport once again as the awaited encounter between India and New Zealand resulted in another washout. The rains kept pouring at regular intervals and the damp outfield meant, no play could be held in Nottingham.
With this, both the teams have been awarded a point each and New Zealand are currently leading the points table with seven in their basket from four games. India, on the other hand, acquire the third slot on the points table as they are yet to lose a game like the Kiwis. The game was delayed quite a number of times and the groundsmen gave their best to ensure they had a good enough outfield but the rain gods showed no mercy whatsoever.
India lost their warm-up game against New Zealand and would have been keen to seek revenge but it wasn't to be. Rain-affected games and washouts are taking the sheen away from the tournament and the controversy regarding not having reserve days is only gaining momentum. Only time will reveal how costly these washout games will cost the sides witnessing it.
