Three cricket players from Delhi had paid Rs.80 lakhs in total to coaches, who had guaranteed them their selection in the Ranji Trophy teams, only to find out that they were given fake selection letters. The BCCI registered a police case on Wednesday after receiving complaints from the cricketers.

Young cricketers Kanishk Gaur, Kishan Attri and Shivam Sharma had allegedly paid the hefty amount on the promise of selection to different Ranji teams, reported PTI. After knowing that they had been duped, they made complaints to BCCI's Regional Integrity Manager of its Anti Corruption Unit Anshuman Upadhyay.

According to a senior police officer, Gaur stated to the police that a cricket coach had approached him last year with guaranteed selection in the Ranji Trophy team of Nagaland as a guest player. Later, a meeting was arranged with the official coach and some board members of the Nagaland cricket team.

He was asked to make a payment of Rs.15 lakhs for a place in the under-19 team for five matches. He was dropped after two matches on the pretext of fake selection letter. The other two youngsters were promised selection in the Ranji Trophy teams of Manipur and Jharkhand.

As per the police, around eleven people, including coaches and board members in connection with the case, are being questioned.
