Sunrisers Hyderabad pacer Basil Thampi has spoken about how much the SRH dugout are happy to have David Warner back in the squad after missing out on his presence last season. Thampi added that he is eager to perform well in the ongoing season of the IPL in order to get into the Indian cricket team.

Sunrisers Hyderabad endured a disheartening loss in their opening match of the season on Sunday as they lost to Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens. However, one of the positives from that game was the fact that former captain David Warner, who was making his return to the domestic league after a gap of one year, looked as though he had never gone anywhere when he anchored the SRH innings with a blistering knock of 85 from just 53 deliveries.

Basil Thampi, who was brought into the SRH squad in last year’s auction, revealed that he was glad to see Warner perform at the highest level and looked forward to seeing him do well over the course of the next month.

"Everyone is very happy actually. Last time also we were missing him, but he is very active on our group (chat group) so it didn't feel like that (like he wasn't there last year). This time he's here and everyone is happy. Last time we missed him so much, Kane took the role. Everyone is happy to have him (Warner) back.

"We have a balanced side every time. This time also we have a good balanced side and David Warner also has come back to the team and we are stronger now. We are a very balanced side," Thampi said in a recent interview with TOI.

The 25-year old pacer from Kerala made his IPL debut in 2017 for the now-defunct Gujarat Lion and played 12 matches in his first IPL season taking 11 wickets. After being picked up by the Sunrisers Hyderabad team, Thampi played four matches last season in which he took five wickets. The SRH pacer added that he will grab every opportunity he gets this season with both hands to try and impress the India selectors and make it to the Indian team.

"Every Indian cricketer wants to play for his country, wear that blue jersey. I have also dreamt of wearing the Indian jersey. It's a different feeling to wear that jersey and stand for the National anthem. It's all about how you prepare. It's all about confidence. If I do well in the IPL, I will definitely get the chance to play for India A or India. It's all about how you perform in the IPL and in domestic cricket and they (selectors) will have an eye on everyone," Thampi added.
