A blistering 77* off 48 deliveries by India cricketer Jemimah Rodrigues powered the Supernovas into the final of this year’s Women’s T20 Challenge as they beat Velocity by 12 runs in Jaipur on Thursday. Mithali Raj failed to lead her team to a win as she ended the match at 40* from 42 balls.

Brief scores: Supernovas 142/3 ( Jemimah Rodrigues 77*, Chamari Athapaththu 31, Amelia Kerr 2/21, Shikha Pandey 1/17) beat Velocity 130/3 ( Danielle Wyatt 43, Mithali Raj 40, Poonam Yadav 1/13, Anuja Patil 1/28)

Jemimah Rodrigues stole the show at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Thursday as she scored a fast-paced 77* off just 48 deliveries in the first innings to lead Supernovas to the final of this year's Women’s T20 Challenge. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side posted a total of 142/3 in 20 overs which proved to be 12 runs too much for Mithali Raj & Co.

Velocity won the toss and opted to bowl first as they backed themselves to chase on a batting-friendly pitch in Jaipur. After the dismissal of opener Priya Punia in the fifth over, the Supernovas saw a brilliant batting display put up by Rodrigues and Chamari Athapaththu of Sri Lanka. The latter was dismissed later on after scoring 31, after which Jemimah took control of the match and led her team to a competitive total of 142/3 in 20 overs. Velocity’s Amelia Kerr (2/21) and Shikha Pandey (1/17) impressed with the ball as they were set a target of 143 by Kaur & Co.

Velocity got off to a disastrous start as both their openers Hayley Matthews (11) and Shafali Verma (2) were dismissed early in the innings. However, that proved to be a blessing in disguise as the two new batters at the crease Danielle Wyatt and Mithali Raj stitched together a healthy partnership to keep themselves in the game. Raj scored an unbeaten 40* off 42 deliveries while Wyatt was castled by Poonam Yadav at 43 when she looked in good touch. At the end, Velocity fell short of the target by 12 runs but will get a chance to avenge their loss in the final on Sunday against the same opponents.
