Eoin Morgan has stated that people are very much excited about the whole summer ahead, given that England are touted as favourites to win the World Cup starting today. England have transformed their game after the previous edition of the quadrennial event and are the top-ranked team at the moment.

Every cricket analyst has named England as the favourites to win their first ever World Cup trophy this time. This has definitely put some pressure on the team but at the same time, it has garnered a lot of interest among the public as well, as revealed by Eoin Morgan.

"People are just so excited and want to talk. There is a lot of good faith going around from the public with people just looking forward to the tournament and being excited about the whole summer ahead. As a team, we're as excited and we're ready to give it a good crack,” he said, reported Cricbuzz.

"It has been happening for the last couple of weeks. Certainly on the tube I've been getting attention which is rare. Normally I get left alone on the tube which is nice!” he added.

The hosts will take on South Africa, in the opening encounter today. Pacer Mark Wood is likely to sit out despite the fact that he has recovered from his ankle injury. Liam Plunkett is likely to make a cut along with certain starters in the bowling lineup like Chris Woakes, Jofra Archer, Ben Stokes, Adil Rashid, and Moeen Ali.

Tom Curran is another player who did exceedingly well in his short career. The skipper will have a lot of questions to be answered with regard to the playing XI when they take the field at The Oval.

"The guys give us so many options and their strengths are in different areas. That was the purpose of selecting such a strong squad, to make every player able to facilitate different areas of the game,” reckoned the 32-year-old.

The top-ranked team had decimated Afghanistan in their second warm-up match but were also defeated by Australia in their first warm-up. Thereby, the skipper did not fail to acknowledge the fact that they will be beaten during the tournament.

"In my head, there is still a lot more to do because we will get beaten by teams. We will get knocked down and have to come back. And if we're showing blind belief and not reacting to what is in front of us then that is no good,” expressed the Ireland born player.

England were defeated by India in the finals of the 2017 Champions Trophy whereas they were knocked out in the semi-finals by Pakistan in the previous edition. The skipper suggested that the team has learned from its mistakes in previous tournaments.

"We need to be able to react and get better as the tournament goes on. It will throw up something to test us, maybe being five down early or chasing 150 we're eight down for 100, there will be something like that. We'll need to be open-minded as to how we tackle each game,” Morgan signed off.
